Port Stephens
Beautiful and Unspoilt
It is often said that Port Stephens has it all: magnificent waterways,
fantastic beaches, award winning restaurants and a wide range of outdoor
and water activities. And the weather
is wonderful with average daytime temperatures that range from 17 degrees
centigrade in July to 28 degrees centigrade in January. However, despite
such good fortune, Port Stephens remains untouched by the commercialism
that can be found at other popular tourist destinations. You won't find
any high-rise, traffic lights or parking meters at Port Stephens but you
will find a beautiful and unspoilt part of Australia. The Shire of Port
Stephens has a combined population of approximately 50,000 people.
Lots to See and Do
The main holiday destination at Port Stephens is the Tomaree Peninsula
and the string of small townships which dot the coastline including Nelson
Bay, Salamander Bay, Soldiers Point, Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay and Anna Bay.
The adjacent Tilligerry Peninsula offers yet more holiday delights with
an emphasis on eco-tourism and activities such as a walk through the Koala
Habitat at Lemon Tree Passage. Less than an hour's drive to the west are
the quaint historic towns of Morpeth and Maitland and the world-renowned
vineyards of the Hunter
Valley.
